Birth of Soap Scum
In early 2001 I had an idea. I wanted to do some theatre again. I wanted to
have a part that was right for me, use my improv skills, have fun, and
work with wonderful, talented people. I decided to produce a show that
would do all that and more.
I rented a theatre and got together a company of actors. The company
was called "Soap Opera Comedy Improvisation." I called the show "Soap
Scum."
We used suggestions from the audience to create an ongoing
soap opera every week! We even had a former soap star in our cast --
Jean Carol, who played Nadine on The Guiding Light. Cal Gibson, another
cast member, had recently been on ER and Judging Amy. As the show grew, we
featured guest stars in addition to our ensemble.
Our first preview night was April 5 2001. We performed at
8:00 pm for an invited audience.
